What was Child Sacrfice to Moloch Really Like? The below scene from the the 1914 Italian silent film ‘Cabiria’ takes place within the huge Temple of Moloch in Carthage in the early 200’s BC. It is a depiction of 100 young children being sacrificed to the god Moloch. Inside the temple frenzied devotees surround the colossal seated winged god Moloch in which is a hollow bronze furnace. The great chest of the god opens for each victim and when the child is slid into the inferno the door closes and open mouth bellows flame. (SOURCE: Wikipedia)
Watching this short silent clip, we see the priest lifting high the living child then placing him in the the furnace, with attendants standing by the priest scrubbing the children so that they are clean and pure and worthy to be sacrificed. Watch as the crowd roars with excitement in anticipation of the child’s death and then deliriously exalt the act where the god Moloch devours the child. The loud beating of drums seen here was to mollify the wailing and bemoaning of the children’s parents at the sight and sound of their child’s horrific immolation.
Are there similarities that can be found here in this scene with the modern day abortion industry? How frenzied and fanatical are the adherents to such practices?
After this scene a Roman soldier saves the young girl Cabiria who would have soon been sacrificed to the god too. The people in the temple see this and angrily chase after the child and her rescuers in order to bring her back to their god. How similar are these people to the pro-abortion advocates where the demise of the child is paramount?
What god is present today that takes the place of Moloch? Pride? Ambition? Money? The list can be extended a long way.
